Would like to know formula to determine HP needed to drive/turn a 400 amp alternator. Making test bench?
The test unit (alternator) will have 400 amp output @ 15 volts.
120 or 220 volts can be used to power the electric motor.
Thank you.
I'm going to assume that you are testing automotive alternators that are delivering your 400 amps under load at a voltage in the 13.5-14.5 range. If that is the case you're looking at about 6000 watts. A 6000 watt generator like the ones used for home
